Sarah J. Maas fans, we have some very exciting news! In a recent podcast appearance, the bestselling romantasy author revealed that we will be getting not one but two A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) books within the next year! Maas also gave readers a much-needed update on whether she will ever return to the Throne of Glass world and why the main character Aelin had to lose her powers at the end of the series. To learn more, read on.

What to know about the new ‘ACOTAR’ book

During her appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Maas revealed that ACOTAR 6 will be released on October 27, 2026.”I’ve been working and working on that. It’s been a long time coming. It’s something that took me a long time to write, just because there were enough things going on in my life that I had to sort through.”

And if that weren’t exciting enough, the bestselling author noted: “January 12, like two months later, I can’t do math, whatever that is, the next ACOTAR book will be coming out.”

“So there’s gonna be a lot of ACOTAR in a very short time. And then eventually the conclusion will be written,” Maas continued. “I don’t want anyone to wait any longer. But, it’s different. It’s ACOTAR, but I’m just telling it in a way that’s exciting to me and gives me the space that the story demanded and the characters demanded.”

While Maas kept the narrators for books 6 and 7 under wraps, fans are already speculating. Many believe the spotlight could fall on Elain, Azriel, Mor, Amren or Lucien—the Inner Circle members who haven’t yet had their main-character moment.

She also didn’t share much about what readers can expect from the plot, but she did tease that we will learn more about Mor’s mysterious powers.

“I’m not gonna reveal any more about it, because there might be more about that,” Maas said. “Everything is possible.”

Currently, there are four published books and one novella in the ACOTAR series. The first three—A Court of Thorns and Roses, A Court of Mist and Fury and A Court of Wings and Ruin—revolve around a girl named Feyre Archeron after she is transported to the magical, faerie-run world of Prythian. Then comes the novella, A Court of Frost and Starlight, which followed Feyre, her mate Rhysand, her friend Cassian and her sister Nesta. Finally, in book four—A Court of Silver Flames, which was released in 2021—Nesta and Cassian are the sole narrators and must battle their feelings for one another as well as a mysterious treasure hunt that could change Prythian forever.

“What Nesta feels in that book, I wrote that as I was going through therapy and I remember the exact moment when I came up with the idea for the scene where she and Cassian are taking that hike and she just breaks down because that was me in New Zealand with Josh [her husband] at my lowest on a hike thinking the same thing,” Maas revealed on the Call Her Daddy podcast. “That all came out of me, and so where she is at the end, she’s not perfect, she’s not healed. She’s still a work in progress, but she was in a hole. I was in a hole and we dug our way out of it together.”

Nesta then appeared again in Maas’ Crescent City series, and her storyline in that book could potentially impact the plot of ACOTAR 6 and 7.

Sarah J. Maas teases a return to the ‘Throne of Glass’ world

Along with ACOTAR, Maas has written the Crescent City series and the Throne of Glass series. Maas says she’s still writing books in the Crescent City series, but to many readers’ dismay, Throne of Glass ended in 2018… Or did it?

In the podcast appearance, Maas teased a potential return to the world, when discussing what Lorcan Salvaterre and Elide Lochan did and why Aelin Ashryver Whitethorn Galathynius lost her powers at the end of Kingdom of Ash.

“I hate the idea of her [Aelin] having to give up something that she learned to love and embrace. But at the same time, I do think that there needs to be some level of sacrifice when it comes to making a decision that big,” Maas said. “I also think it opens up again in my endless thinking about things, just in me as her creator and writing this. What does it look like for her after that? You go from like all this power and you give it up and, how does that feel? I find that there was, even with that as an ending, it felt like a different start of a journey. That just was fascinating for me.”

“[As for Lorcan and Elide] I dunno how I feel about it now. I mean maybe there’s like bonus content as a surprise Christmas present sometime.”
