For most people at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, the most important piece of medal is the one they wear around their neck after winning. Not for American alpine Ski Racer Breezy Johnson, though. Not only will the 30-year-old be going home with a medal, but she will also be going home with a Taylor Swift-inspired engagement ring! That’s right, the Jackson Hole, Wyoming native is engaged, and we have all the details on the ring and her fiancé, Connor Watkins, below!

A Golden week: Breezy Johnson engaged at the 2026 Olympics

Just five days after winning gold in the women’s downhill, Johnson’s boyfriend, Watkins, got down on one knee and proposed at the base of the super-G run in Cortina D’Ampezzo, Italy.

“You’ve worked so hard and achieved so much, and yet you still find the time to love me, to make me feel special, and most importantly, you help me love myself,” Watkins said to Johnson in a clip shared by Today. “There’s only one way I want to spend the rest of my life, and that’s by your side. I love you, Breezy. Will you marry me?”

This proposal came just moments after Johnson unfortunately crashed during the women’s Super-G race, and according to Watkins was in the works for a year.

“I really hoped that I could get to the finish area and do it the way I wanted. And it turned out we could, and we’re just super excited,” he told NBC News.

As for Johnson, she told the outlet that getting engaged at the 2026 Games was a “dream.”

“I had told [Watkins] that I had always kind of had a dream of getting engaged at the Olympics, but it was very emotional and very exciting,” Johnson said. “And he did a great job.”

Following the actual proposal, Watkins told Today that had Johnson’s crash been worse, the engagement might not have happened.

“I wanted her to do well, but I just wanted her to be safe, too,” he said. “She got up after the crash and was good, and that was a sign of relief. And then my heart started racing again because I knew I was about to go and get down on my own knee and propose.

“Luckily, she got up and was fine, and we could stick with plan A,” Watkins continued. “But definitely, in the case where she wasn’t receptive to the proposal, I had a backup plan just in case.”

Who is Breezy Johnson’s fiancé, Connor Watkins?

Watkins is a construction worker whom Johnson met on Bumble in 2023. For the most part, the two have kept their relationship private, which makes sense since Johnson herself said in a 2022 interview with Team USA that she wants the attention to be on her skiing, not who she’s dating. That interview came after the skier came out as bisexual on Instagram and is something she has stuck to for the past four years.

“I’m not hiding or worried about what people are going to ask me in the end about my boyfriend or whatnot, but I did get it out there because I wanted to get back to focusing on skiing,” Johnson told Team USA. “I would hope people credit my work ethic and my results, and not some announcement.”

Inside the Taylor Swift-Inspired Proposal and ‘Alchemy’ ring

Like so many of us, Johnson is a Swifte, so on her engagement box, she had the words “Honestly, who are we to fight the alchemy” engraved on it, which is from Swift’s 2024 song “The Alchemy.”

Swift saw this and commented on Johnson’s announcement post, “‘Where’s the trophy? He just comes running over to me,” CONGRATULATIONS!!!”

What’s next for the newly engaged alpine skier?

According to Watkins, once the Olympics are over, he and Johnson are going to do some traveling.

“We’re going to take a little trip after this, may go to Livigno for a few days,” Watkins told NBC News. “And then we’ll see where the road takes us next.”
