We all know and love actress Candace Cameron Bure from her time on the beloved sitcoms Full House and Fuller House and her movies on the Hallmark channel and the Great American Family channels. And while her acting credits are impressive, she’s also an accomplished writer: The 49-year-old has written several books over the years. Her most recent, Rise and Renew: A 30-Day Devotional, out today, is a day-by-day guide to help people reconnect with themselves and God. Woman’s World recently sat down with Cameron Bure to discuss the book, her faith, how she feels about her upcoming 50th birthday and more. Read on to see what the award-winning actress has to say.

Candace Cameron Bure discusses her new book

Rise and Renew: A 30-Day Devotional was inspired by the COVID-19 pandemic, says Cameron Bure. “Things felt a little desperate,” she admits. “Life took a turn, and I think a lot of us felt very uneasy. And I needed to remind myself that I need to focus on what’s true and right.”

“So I wrote this book based on that, just to give hope to all of us, because life doesn’t always go the way you are expecting,” she continues. “Life really is like a roller coaster. There’s lots of ups and downs throughout and I think to rise up and renew our minds each day is very important.”

What sets this devotional apart from her past books? “It’s a 30-day devotional,” explains Cameron Bure, “and there are many Scriptures that refer to whatever point I’m talking about. If you want to have renewed peace in your life, a renewed strength in your life, a renewed joy, there are at least five Scriptures that will point to that. And there’s always a personal reflection from me, and then there’s a call to action,” she continues. “I think having an activity in the book is important, because it gives us that point of action that can really change our day.”

The book is full of prompts that make it easy to reflect, like: Where in your life do you long to rise up in the power of God’s Spirit? Another one asks you to consider your biggest challenges and ask what God is calling you to do. With each entry, Cameron Bure shows that just a few minutes of reflection can set the tone for a more joyful, faith-filled day.

Candace Cameron Bure opens up about her faith journey

With a devotional comes a sense of faith in God, something that is very important to Cameron Bure. “I know that God is with me at every moment, and I know that to be true because the Bible says He’s omnipresent,” she explains.

And yes, like so many of us Cameron Bure has had tough moments in her life, but throughout it all God has been with her.

“Surely when we’re in circumstances in our life that feel down. I’ve had many of those moments. Sometimes they’ve been with work, sometimes they’ve been in marriage, sometimes it’s just parenting, because parenting children is hard, and yet I know in the most desperate place in life, that God has always met me there and lends me His hand and pulls me out,” the actress says.

Even when she’s experiencing those tough moments, Cameron Bure says she’s “never not had a belief in God.”

“Even if you’re shaking your fist at Him and are mad at Him, or like, ‘why is this happening to me? Or why is this happening to my child?’ I think those are all fair and honest questions that anybody can ask God, and He’ll give you answers to them,” she continues. “Sometimes there are things that are still a bit of a mystery that we’re not going to know until we meet Him, but I love that. I can trust Him that He will always have a plan that is good for those who love Him.”

Next April, Cameron Bure will celebrate a milestone birthday, and she’s preparing by “enjoying every moment of 49 that I have left.”

“I really want to enter my 50s in the healthiest place that I could possibly be in at this time,” she continues. “I’ve really taken an active role in my health and my body, whether that’s with training, with eating, with checking my hormones, working with my doctor, all of those things to make sure that the second half of my life, if I would be so blessed to live to 100, is just as good as it can be, because I know that the challenges will only get more difficult at this point.”

Exercise is a big part of that plan, and she’s making it a family activity! “I actually work out with my husband [Valeri Bure] five days a week, which I love. I really love lifting weights. It’s changed my body a lot.”

Candace Cameron Bure looks back on her career

Cameron Bure has been acting since she was 5, and her career took off when she was cast as D.J. Tanner in Full House at age 10. And years later, she received what she calls “the greatest compliment,” saying, “When they made fun of me on Saturday Night Live, that’s when I made it.”

But at the heart of her success is her ability to connect with others. “I really love telling stories, and I love the opportunity to bring those stories to life, whether they be through family television, through Christmas movies or through mysteries,” she says.

In addition to the new book, Cameron Bure is getting ready to release two Christmas movies. The first, Another Sweet Christmas, will be shown in theaters Thanksgiving weekend, from November 30 through December 2. Her other movie, Timeless Tidings of Joy, comes out November 15 on Great American Family.

“I particularly love the movies that I’ve made over the years at Christmas time, because it’s such an incredible holiday. It brings people together,” Cameron-Bure says “There’s always good, joyous memories that are attached with it. And so I feel special to be in the genre and continue to make Christmas movies every year.”
