If you are one of the millions of Americans receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI), we have some news for you: An extra check is coming your way at the end of the month. But will that impact the November payments? And what does it mean for other Americans looking to receive their standard Social Security benefits come November? We break it all down for you below.
What to know about SSI payments in November
Supplemental Security Income is a government-funded program that gives money to Americans with disabilities and adults 65 years or older. It’s paid for by the federal government and is different from the standard Social Security payments, which you earn by paying taxes on your income.
As of August 2025, more than 7 million Americans are receiving SSI payments, and 2,548 of them get SSI and Social Security, meaning they receive two payments a month. But the Social Security Administration (SSA) recently announced that all SSI recipients will be getting two payments inOctober. This happens sometimes if the first of the month—when SSI payments are normally sent out—falls on a weekend or a federal holiday, forcing the SSA to send the money out early.

And this year November 1 falls on a Saturday, so the government organization is sending out payments on Friday, October 31. These extra payments were also made in February and May of this year, since the first of the month fell on a weekend.
It’s also expected to happen in January 2026, since the first of that month is considered a federal holiday. SSI recipients will then receive their money on December 31 for the month ahead.
Are there any changes being made to SSI payments in November?
Aside from the payment date, no changes are expected to be made to SSI payments in November. But since September 30, all payments are being sent via direct deposit since the SSA has stopped issuing paper checks.
“There are two key reasons for this change: efficiency and fraud prevention,” Kevin Thompson, the CEO of 9i Capital Group, told Newsweek in July. “Digital payments streamline the distribution process, cut down on mailing costs and reduce the potential for delays or errors while by using secure electronic payment methods, the SSA can better ensure that benefits are delivered directly to the intended recipients, reducing the risk of theft or misdirected funds.”
Will SSI payments impact Social Security?
If you receive e bothSSI and Social Security, you’ll get the SSI check early and your Social Security payment at the typical time. And if you only get Social Security, you’ll get your payments as planned in November. Here’s when to expect that payment:.
- People with birthdays on the 1st through the 10th will get payments on November 12, the second Wednesday of the month.
- People with birthdays on the 11th through the 20th will get payments on November 19, the third Wednesday of the month.
- People with birthdays on the 21st through the 31st will get payments on November 26, the fourth Wednesday of the month.
These payments will also be made via direct deposit. If you have any questions about that or SSA, they recommend calling them at 1 (800) 772-1213.
