A song entitled “Elizabeth Taylor” sung by the one and only Taylor Swift? Count us in! That’s right, classic film fans, on Swift’s brand new albumThe Life of A Showgirl there is a song with that name and it’s filled with Easter eggs centered around the late actress. We share them all below. 

There’s a callout to Elizabeth Taylor’s violet eyes

One of the things Taylor was best known for was her violet eyes, and in the song “Elizabeth Taylor,” Swift calls that out by singing, “I’d cry my eyes violet, Elizabeth Taylor.” 

Elizabeth Taylor’s marriage to Richard Burton is mentioned 

Taylor and actor Richard Burton were married twice, way back when. First from 1964 to 1974 and then from 1975 to 1976, and in the song Swift calls out Plaza Athénée, in Portofino, Italy, where the classic Hollywood couple first got engaged. 

“That view of Portofino was on my mind when you called me at the Plaza Athénée,” sings Swift. 

There are several call-outs to romances ending

There are a number of mentions throughout the song about romances ending, and for both Swift and Taylor, their love lives are still very heavily discussed to this day. For Taylor, that comes in the form of people wanting to know more about her eight marriages to seven different men. Why did she get married so often and why didn’t all of those marriages work out? Those questions remain unanswered. For Swift, people all over the world have always wanted to know who she’s dating and which of her songs is about which ex-boyfriend.

Because of those similarities, it’s safe to assume that lines like “Tell me for real, do you think it’s forever?” and “And I can’t have fun if I can’t have you” aren’t only about Swift’s relationships, but Taylor’s as well. 

Hollywood is also mentioned 

Despite mainly being a singer, Swift does have the line “whеn Hollywood hates me” in her song, which could very well be a call out to Taylor, who spent most of her career living as an actor in—you guessed it—Hollywood.

Elizabeth Taylor’s love for jewelry dazzles 

Anyone who’s ever seen a picture of Taylor knows that she loved her jewelry, which Swift calls out in the song twice. The first time is when she sings, “Babe, I would trade the Cartier for someone to trust (Just kidding),” and the second is during the bridge, which includes, “All my white diamonds and lovers are forever.” 

Elizabeth Taylor’s favorite restaurant gets a shoutout

Musso and Frank’s is Hollywood’s first ever eatery, and during Taylor’s time in the industry, she was a frequent flyer there. And as it turns out, so is Swift, who sings, “We hit the best booth at Musso and Frank’s” on her brand new album. 

Bonus: Elizabeth Taylor’s also in ‘Reputation’ 

Long before The Life of A Showgirl was released, Swift sang the words, “You could be my jailer, Burton to this Taylor” on her hit song … “Ready For it,” which appeared on the 2017 album Reputation. 

Now, could that be an Easter egg for the highly anticipated Reputation re-release or Vault Tracks? Only time will tell.
