Fellow journalists, we have some breaking news! Season 2 of the hit Peacock mockumentary show The Paper is officially happening, and based on how Season 1 ended, it’s basically guaranteed to be a front-page story filled with scandalous tidbits of must-read information. Below, we have everything you need to know about The Paper Season 2, including what the plot will most likely be about, if you can expect any other actors from The Office to appear and more.

What to know about ‘The Paper’ Season 2

Just one day before The Paper premiered on Peacock, the streaming service renewed it for a second season—most likely because so many people were anxiously awaiting the highly anticipated Office spinoff

“We definitely have ideas,” co-creator Greg Daniels told Variety in September of this year. “We’ve been talking about stories for a possible Season 2, and it’ll be interesting to see what the audience thinks. We’ve gotten really good feedback from people inside the company and journalists and friends.”

As of publication, there is no news on what the plot will be about. That being said, it’s safe to assume that it will showcase the members of the Toledo Truth Teller dealing with the aftermath of the award show. It will also probably touch on the fact that Ned Sampson (Domhnall Gleeson) and Mare Pritti (Chelsea Frei)—spoiler alert—finally kissed!

“We shot that ending like a million different ways,” Frei told Swooon in September. “I didn’t even know that’s how it was going to be. There are versions where we didn’t kiss. [I think] they wanted to see how the season felt and where it went.”

“I always say, and I think it’s true, that Mare and Ned just both want to make something amazing. Whatever their relationship ends up being or is right now, it’s almost a byproduct of this important thing to them, which is the paper.”

Will any of ‘The Office’ cast members appear in ‘The Paper ’?

Aside from Oscar Nuñez (who plays Oscar Martinez) and Bobby Ray Shafer (who plays Bob Vance from Vance Refrigeration), it doesn’t seem like any cast members from The Office will be appearing in The Paper. Several of them, including Stanley Hudson (Leslie David Baker), Phyllis Vance (Phyllis Smith), and Michael Scott (Steve Carell), are mentioned at various points in Season 1. In fact, the former of which even visited The Paper set during Season 1 alongside John Krasinski.

“No makeup yet. We are very anxious. Like, oh my God, we’re so scared. And then we hear, knock, knock. Someone enters the trailer, and it’s Steve Carell and John Krasinski!” Sabrina Impacciatore, who plays Esmeralda Grand in The Paper, told Entertainment Weekly in August of this year. “We’re fainting. Like, what? Can you imagine? Isn’t it crazy? The first day of shooting!”

And that wasn’t the only time Krasinski and Carell showed their support for the spinoff. According to Gleeson, if it weren’t for them, he might not have been in The Paper at all.

“[Krasinski] was wonderful. I mean, his big advice that he gave me was to do it,” Gleeson said in May of this year, per Variety. “And the same with Steve Carell, another just wonderful actor whom I’d worked with before. And their advice was, ‘If it’s [The Office creator] Greg Daniels, you should do it because getting to work with him is a treat that not many people get to have.’”

“I mean, I like to think I would’ve got there on my own anyway,” he continued. “But certainly if [John] and Steve had been, like, ‘Don’t do it, it’s a nightmare,’ I would’ve hightailed it, but they could not have been more positive about it and I’m delighted I listened to them.”

‘The Paper’ Season 2 release date

As of publication, there is no official release date for The Paper Season 2. There is also no word on whether the show will have 10 episodes, as was the case in Season 1, or if Peacock will produce even more episodes, given its popularity.
