There are countless classic film actresses who have been married multiple times, but none as much as Zsa Zsa Gabor. Born in Hungary in 1917, Gabor began acting in films in 1952 and continued to thrive from there. But her acting wasn’t the thing people remember her for. Instead, it’s her nine marriages to fake princes, actors, hotel moguls and others. To learn more about these marriages, keep scrolling!

Burhan Belge (1935 to 1941)

Burhan Belge was a Turkish diplomat and politician who was married to Gabor from 1935 until 1941. He was 36 at the time, and she was 18. Aside from that, there is not a lot of information regarding the couple’s relationship.

Following their divorce, Belge reportedly never married again but did welcome a son in 1943.

Conrad Nicholson Hilton (1942 to 1947)

A year after her first divorce, Gabor married hotel mogul and politician Conrad Nicholson Hilton, despite the 30-year age difference between them.

Their marriage was a dramatic one, though, with Gabor claiming in her 1991 memoir One Life is Not Enough that Hilton “only has two passions in life: his religion and Hilton hotels.” This caused a lot of issues within their relationship, including Gabor reportedly having an affair with Hilton’s son Conrad “Nicky” Hilton Jr in 1944, who was 18 at the time.

Gabor and Hilton’s most famous scandal, though, came in the form of the birth of their child. According to Gabor’s memoir, Hilton raped her, which led to her becoming pregnant. She then gave birth after their divorce was finalized, and despite what the birth certificate said, Hilton reportedly never believed that Francesca was his daughter and only left her $100,000 when he died in 1979.

George Sanders (1949 to 1954)

After taking a seven-year break from life as a wife, Gabor married actor George Sanders—who was only nine years older than her—in April 1949.

The two were reportedly very in love for a short time, but then infidelity crept in. Sanders had an affair with socialite Doris Duke, and Gabor had one with race car driver Porfirio Rubirosa. Sanders and Gabor then got divorced five years later on the exact same day they got married—April 2.

After their split, Sanders and Gabor remained in each other’s lives for quite some time. They worked together on the 1956 film Death of a Scoundrel, and even briefly got back together in the early 1960s’. Like before, though, it didn’t work out, and Sanders then married Gabor’s sister, Magda, in 1970 but filed for an annulment after just 32 days.

Sanders sadly killed himself in 1972 at age 65, and after his death, Gabor told reporters that he was “the major love of my life.”

Herbert L. Hunter (1962 to 1966)

Gabor’s fourth husband, Herber Hunter, was a Wall Street Broker turned President of New England Life Insurance Company who married the actress in 1962. Because of his low-profile career, a lot of Hunter and Gabor’s relationship details were not publicized or talked about.

Following their divorce in 1966, Hunter went on to serve as Chairman of the President’s Advisory Committee on the Arts from 1982 until 1990. He died at age 99 in 2008.

Joshua S. Cosden Jr. (1966 to 1967)

Following her divorce from Hunter,, Gabor married Joshua S. Cosden Jr after meeting him six weeks prior. Similar to her previous marriage, Cosden and Gabor did not appear a lot in public together, and many of their relationship details remain a secret. They divorced a year later.

Jack Ryan (1975 to 1976)

Jack Ryan is best known for his work as a fashion designer and creator of the Barbie doll. He was also famously married to Gabor for eight months between the years 1975 and 1976.  Since the marriage was so short, though, details about the couple do remain a mystery, but it is widely believed that Gabor had an affair with Michael O’Hara since she married Michael O’Hara three days after her divorce with Ryan was finalized.

Michael O’Hara (1976 to 1982)

Lawyer Michael O’Hara was married to Gabor from 1976 until 1982. The two got married in the Hilton bridal suite in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Gabor was O’Hara’s only marriage, and aside from their time together, details surrounding who he is as a person and what happened to him post-split remain unclear.

Felipe De Alba (1982)

In April 1983, Felipe De Alba and Gabor got married on a yacht on the coast of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The marriage was later deemed invalid, though, because Gabor’s divorce fromO’Hara hadn’t been finalized yet.

The couple did plan to tie the knot again in July 1982, but Gabor called it off, saying, “He bored me. He’s a playboy, and I’m a hard-working actress.”

Prince Frédéric Prinz von Anhalt (1986 to 2016)

Gabor’s ninth—eighth legally—and final marriage was to Frédéric Prinz von Anhalt, a man who was 25 years younger than her and made his money selling royal titles to everyday people. The two met at a party hosted by Sidney Sheldon and reportedly got married as friends at first before eventually falling in love.

The couple adopted three kids throughout their marriage, all of whom were grown adults, and used von Anhalt to help them pay for various royal titles—just like he did.

Von Anhalt and Gabor remained together until she died in 2016, with the actress leaving the prince her home and a large chunk of money.

“She was slowly slipping away, peacefully, without pain. And it was just the time for her to go. She wanted to go,” von Anhalt said after her death. “[We had] a big love affair. She loved me dearly and I loved Hollywood.”

The death of Zsa Zsa Gabor

Gabor died in 2016 from multiple health problems, including the amputation of her right leg, dementia, a lung infection and a heart attack. All of these left her “locked away in her mansion laying in a hospital bed being fed through tubes in her navel, not able to speak, see, write or hear. Not knowing who she was or how famous she was.”

She was 99 at the time of her death and is best known for her many marriages and acting career.
