Audrey Hepburn was a cinematic icon on the big screen back in the 1960s thanks to her grace, talent, beauty and poise. She was also someone who truly loved love and got married twice within 15 years. And while the ceremonies were private affairs, there are a select few rare photos that were able to be rounded up. To see them and learn more about her weddings and marriages, keep scrolling!

Audrey Hepburn and Mel Ferrer: A wedding in the Swiss Alps

Hepburn and Mel Ferrer met in 1953 at the British premiere of Roman Holiday. Despite the 12-year age gap between them, they got married a year later in Switzerland and remained together until 1968. They had one child together named Sean Ferrer in 1960. 

“How dearly we would love you to be with us on our wedding day,” Hepburn wrote in a recovered letter. “We will have the car take you up to our mountain peak Friday for a gathering in our chalet of our nearest and dearest! Saturday will be the wedding…We want to keep it a dark secret in order to have it without the ‘press.’”

Here comes the bride

A bride walking down the aisle is a pivotal part of the wedding, and in this photo, you can see Hepburn doing just that with her new husband. And even though their marriage did end, we have to admit they look quite happy here. 

The newlyweds go on a walk 

Here, you can see Hepburn in a gorgeous long-sleeved, tea-length white wedding gown designed by Pierre Balmain with a flower crown in her hair. Ferrer is next to her with a matching flower on his lapel, in a black tuxedo. The two appear to be on a walk, looking rather concerned that someone was taking their photo. 

Sorry, I just have to make a quick phone call 

Long before cell phones, people had to use landlines to call others, and here you can see Hepburn doing that on her wedding day. It’s unclear who she is calling, but if we had it our way, it would be another classic Hollywood starlet like Marilyn Monroe or Elizabeth Taylor to tell them how it went. 

Audrey Hepburn marries Andrea Dotti in chic pink 

A year after divorcing Ferrer, Hepburn married Andrea Dotti. It is believed that their affair contributed to the ending of her first marriage. 

Hepburn and Dotti remained together until 1982, during which time they welcomed one child together. Similar to her first marriage, it is believed that infidelity played a part in their split. 

“I was no angel—Italian husbands have never been famous for being faithful,” Dotti said, per People. “But she was jealous of other women even from the beginning.”

Despite all of that, though, there are several photos of the two on their wedding day, happily and in love, and some of them even include Hepburn’s first child. 

Introducing Mr. and Mrs. Audrey Hepburn 

Hepburn and Dotti are all smiles in this photo of them leaving the church in Moreges, Switzerland. The actress wore a pink-white dress with a headscarf, and her husband opted for a simple suit. Talk about elegance.  

Move please! Newlyweds coming through 

Since Hepburn was one of the most famous people in the world at the time, it makes sense that her adoring fans wanted to get at least one glimpse of her on her wedding day. In this photo, you can see just how many people showed up and how, through it all, Hepburn walked through the crowds holding her son’s hand with a smile on her face. 

Smiles and sunshine 

Like most newlyweds, Hepburn and Dotti were all smiles on their wedding day, which is especially clear in this close-up shot. The only issue we have with it is that we weren’t there to take the photo ourselves!
