Shiz University students, it’s time to hop on our bubbles and brooms and head back to Oz, because Universal Pictures has just released the first official trailer for Wicked: For Good, and it’s even grander and greener than we had hoped. It is also filled with a ton of Easter eggs and moments that weren’t in the hit Broadway musical. Below, we have discovered what they are and how they could affect Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda’s (Ariana Grande) journey in the second film. Read on for more.

What you might have missed in the ‘Wicked: For Good’ Trailer

Wicked: For Good will be the follow-up film to the 2024 hit blockbuster film Wicked. It is expected to follow Elphaba Thropp, a.k.a. The Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda the Good Witch as they deal with their new powers, titles, friendships and feelings—all of which will help them in their final battle with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (Jeff Goldblum).

All of these things are showcased in the trailer, but there are a few moments that are vastly different from Act Two of the Broadway musical, which is, of course, based on Gregory Maguire’s bestselling novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West.

For instance, in the trailer, viewers see Prince Fiyero (Johnathan Bailey) and Glinda getting married. This never happens in the stage production. The pair is engaged, but once Fiyero reunites with Elphaba, he leaves Glinda to be with her.

There is also a hefty focus on Dorothy Gale, whose casting has yet to be announced, in the Wicked: For Good trailer, which isn’t a surprise, since the Kansas native was showcased in part one. She can be seen walking down The Yellow Brick Road and having a conversation with The Wizard, in which he tells her to go receive Elphaba’s broom, which fans know ends with the Wicked Witch melting after having water thrown on her. This is a shift from the Broadway show, though, because in it, Dorothy is only ever talked about or shown as a shadow.

Dorothy is also, of course, joined by her companions The Lion, The Scarecrow and The Tin Man–and while we won’t spoil who those people are just yet, there are several easter eggs in the characters’ costumes that hint at it. There is also a shot of the tornado that brings Dorothy to Oz and kills Nessarose (Marissa Bode), being summoned by Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh), as well one where Dorthy is seen wearing the silver slippers—not red—which is the main reason Elphaba goes after her in the first place.

Finally, in the trailer, which you can see below, we finally get a short clip of both “For Good” and “No Good Deed”, which are two of the second act’s biggest numbers. We also see Glinda wearing a lot of green jewelry, and Elphaba does keep the note Glinda wrote her before they went to The Emerald City in the first film, showcasing that even though they are supposed to be enemies, the two witches will also be best friends at heart.
