Harry Potter fans, we have some magical news: Tom Felton is officially going to be reprising his role as Draco Malfoy in the blockbuster Broadway play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. He will be the first cast member from the eight original films to do so. Below, we reveal why the British actor decided to return to the role after 14 years and where and when you can expect to see him make his magical mark on the Great White Way. Read on for more.

What to know about Tom Felton’s return as Draco Malfoy

On Thursday, June 6, Felton appeared on The TODAY Show to officially announce that he would be playing Draco Malfoy in the Broadway show Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.  It will be his Broadway debut.

“It’s very much a pinch-me situation,” Felton told TODAY Show hosts Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin. “I keep thinking I’m dreaming. I let go of that character 16 years ago, and now I get to step back into his shoes, as a father this time, in a new story.”

Following his TV appearance, Felton then sat down with Today.com to share more of what us muggles can expect from him in the play.

“[It] is such an independent story from the Potter films that I grew up with,” he said. “We start 19 years later … Now we’re no longer children. We actually are the parents. So as much as it is reprising an old role for me, it’s very much treading into new, unfamiliar territory. I knew him quite well as a kid. I don’t know him that well as an adult. So that’s the exciting challenge ahead for me.”

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child follows Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, Ginny Weasley and of course Draco Malfoy, as they deal with the trials and tribulations of sending their own kids to Hogwarts. The play originally debuted on London’s West End in 2016, before moving to New York City in 2018. It has since become Broadway’s highest-grossing play of all time.

“It’s very, very easy to get emotional,” Felton said in that same conversation with TODAY. “When they put my blond wig on for the theater production, I just immediately cried. It was just sort of like a blast from the past. … It was something that I never thought I’d see again.”

Since Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 2 hit theaters in 2011, Felton has remained rather open and honest about how much he loved being in the films. He even released a memoir in 2022 entitled Beyond the Wand: The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard, which was a #1 New York Times bestseller.

“It’s been great fun playing him, and there are no two ways about it, I’m certainly going to miss playing the character,” Felton told Movie Magic after the release of Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 2. “Equally, it’s been a great learning lesson for me, and I’ve had the opportunity to learn from so many actors on how to play him. I’m sad to see him go, but ultimately, I’m proud of what we achieved in the last 10 years and it’s always something to look back on. But saying that, if Jo [J.K. Rowling] wrote another book, I would never say no.”

When will Tom Felton make his Broadway debut?

Felton will be in the show from November 11 to March 22, 2026, and tickets will be available for purchase online starting on June 10 at 11 a.m. EST.
